Buyers new to bulk agricultural import often plan around weight alone. In practice, low-density products cube out long before they weigh out — and that changes freight cost per tonne substantially.
Dense products
Grains and cereals in 50 kg bags load 26–27 MT per 20 ft container. Bagged rice and meals run 25–26 MT. These are weight-limited.
Low-density products
Soy grits and flour load only 19–22 MT, and soy nuggets or granules as little as 10–14 MT per 20 ft container. For these, a 40 ft container is usually the more economical unit.
Liquids
Feed oil loads roughly 16 MT in 200 kg barrels, 20 MT in IBC totes and 20–22 MT in a flexitank — the flexitank being the lowest cost per tonne where the receiving facility can discharge it.
Ports and terms
Loading from Mundra, Nhava Sheva (JNPT) and Kandla, on FOB or CIF terms, with TT advance or LC at sight.
